‘Bun’ by Clark Bardsley upholstered in Kvadrat Febrik
Easily recognisable for its generous proportions and characterful shape, ‘Bun’ armchair from Clark Bardsley instantly commands attention. With its millefeuille of foam densities upholstered in Kvadrat Febrik Mosaic 2, this remarkable design achieves a masterful blend of comfort and luxury.
Featuring a sprawling seat and reclined posture, Bun emulates the playful, cosy feel of a beanbag chair. The chair lacks any internal structure; it is constructed from dense but lightweight internal foam, which has been crushed, moulded and held in place by a steel compression frame. Designed to incrementally enhance comfort and create new ways to relax, Bun invites you to sink into its embrace and disappear into its curves, while also infusing its surrounds with elegance.
“A contradiction exists between the playfulness of the Bun’s form and its refined aesthetic,” says Clark. “It’s a stylish piece of furniture that didn’t take itself too seriously. Bun makes people smile, while still communicating luxury.”
Textiles from Kvadrat Febrik were imperative to achieving such an intriguing and innovative effect. The knitted construction of Mosaic 2 offers unparalleled stretchability; it conforms effortlessly to Bun’s shape, clinging to the curves and softening the angles.
“Kvadrat Febrik has pushed the technology around upholstery, and their brilliant stretch upholsteries were essential to bring Bun to life,” says Clark. “It was important to choose a fabric that would move with the foam as we moulded it into shape. This would not be possible with most fabrics, but the Mosaic textile from Kvadrat Febrik expertly swathes the chair and celebrates its spirited natural form.”
The natural rhythm of Mosaic 2 and its tactile graphic pattern imbues Bun with a unique, characterful presence. Wrinkling and contorting around the chair’s curves and edges, the fabric enhances the dimensionality of the structure and solidifies its place in the centre of the room. Designed to stand out, Bun is best placed in an open space, where it can be admired from all angles.
