Introducing Sahco, A Legacy Of Modern Textile Design

In the world of design, the name Sahco is synonymous with quality, luxury and refinement. Though humble in origin, the company now represents the avant-garde of textile design and fabrication. For almost 200 years, Sahco textiles have remained timeless classics, defining taste for an international audience.

Inspired by their innovation and commitment to quality, Kvadrat joined forces with Sahco in May 2018. “Adding Sahco to the Kvadrat family gives us the opportunity to further extend our footprint in the residential textile market. Sahco has an almost 200 year long heritage and has for long been a highly respected brand in the exclusive residential upholstery and curtain textiles,” Anders Byriel, CEO of Kvadrat.

Sahco was founded 1831 in Southern Germany. Drawing on generations of family knowledge, and driven by their profound devotion to honest and authentic materials, they began by trading fine carpets, silks and upholstery from France and the Far East.

Today, Sahco is renowned amongst architects, interior designers and furniture manufacturers all over the world. From their headquarters in Nuremberg, and showrooms in Paris, London, Munich and Milan, they have distributed some of the finest curtain and upholstery fabrics, wall coverings, carpets and accessories of our time, and have been specified in stunning private homes, yachts, hotels, castles and even film sets.

Sahco’s textiles sit beyond the horizons of traditional textile fabrication. Inspired by classical designs, and enriched by a strong contemporary spirit, their products are defined by their rich texture and sophisticated expression of colour. Every textile is bold and experimental, presenting intuitive combinations of colour and texture and creating immersive sensory experiences.

Led by Creative Director Bengt Thornefors, who joined the company as Creative Director in 2022, Sahco will continue innovating in the world of textile design. Having worked as Senior Designer at Acne Studios, a Senior Designer & Artistic Consultant at YSL Saint Laurent, and a co-founder of Swedish-bedwear brand Magniberg, Thornefors will usher in a new era for Sahco.

“Our aim is to take Sahco to the next level in global influence and relevance. We know Bengt from his very successful art direction and creative leadership at the Stockholm power brand Magniberg. Bengt started his career as a designer at Acne Studios and also spent several years at Saint Laurent in Paris. He brings strong vision and ideas of the past and future into the interior space,” says Anders.

Building on their 200-year-old legacy, Sahco will traverse into radical new territory, experimenting with contrasts – the dark and the ultra-feminine, the soft and the dangerous – to evoke emotion and redefine perfection.
